Tiny room but hotel is terrific and perfectly situated!
For the price, the Milford Plaza is a great place to stay. If you are looking for a very safe central location, there is no better spot. Theatres surround the hotel, Times Square is just up the street, Hell's Kitchen is a short walk away, Penn Station is very close by, and subway stops are everywhere. If you are looking for a palatial suite, this is not the place. But if you are looking for a very safe, clean hotel with great amenities, this is perfect. Rooms are very tiny so don't bring a lot of luggage - there simply is not room to store it. The beds have the usual yucky polyester grungy spreads, but the beds are comfortable. The Milford Club is a great upgrade. You get a FREE breakfast, beverages and snack foods throughout the day, and FREE Internet (in the Club room or in your own bedroom). It's a great place to spend a few hours on your last day waiting to leave for the airport. The staff is outstanding - extremely friendly and very helpful. ALL the staff. The hotel elevators with their unique "punch-in-your-floor-number-and-take-an-assigned-elevator" system is both unique and very efficient. Tip: If you are staying on the 16th floor, walk down one floor - you'll have access to 6 elevators instead of only 3. This is very helpful to know in high use times. Theatres are all around the Milford, including the popular Phantom of the Opera, which is just around the corner. Eateries, including the terrific Dallas BBQ and European-style delis, are just a short walk away. Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum, Times Square, the Hudson Riverfront, and so much more is just a short walk away. The Milford is a great value and we will stay here again.

Great Location, Poor Accomodations
more...
The Milford Plaza is in a great location at 44th St and 8th Ave. Many Broadway theaters are literally around the corner. That's about all that is good. Our room was very small, maybe 8' x 9', and located behind the elevators. The room exit, through a long narrow passageway from the door, was partially blocked by furniture that did not fit the small space in the room (probably a fire code violation). The view of the television was blocked by the bathroom door. The "closet" was about 12" deep. The bath was smaller than on a cruise ship and far less well designed. The shower had mildew in corners that had been partially covered with caulk and regrew through the caulk. Apparently, bleach is not a known cleaning product at the Milford Plaza. In general, the housekeeping was poor. The bed was soft and saggy. The furnishings were well worn, poorly selected for the space available, and ugly. This is not what one should expect for 300 per night, even in New York.

More expensive than Tokyo! No joke....
I was appalled that this very, very average hotel in New York costs DOUBLE what a five star luxury hotel recently cost me in Tokyo! I think New York is now more expensive than Tokyo. If you don't believe me, research the prices on travel online. At any rate, the Milford is no more than adequate, and in no way compares to what I got for my money in Japan. The rooms are tiny, even compared with those in Japan. At 1500 for the week, I'd call it highway robbery for what I got. However, the staff was very pleasant (unusual for New York), and helpful. The elevator system is quite good for a hotel this large. The decor and furniture is somewhat worn, and the closet was not big enough for two people to store their clothing. By New York standards this may be the best you can get for the price. By far, the ONLY reason to stay here is the location, which is one block from Time's Square, and the E and C trains are just outside the front door. But, in any other US city this place would be considered a dump. It's sad to see this city become so unreasonable and over the top expensive... I'm SO VERY GLAD I don't live in New York anymore (after 13 years of it, I'd had enough)... New York is a wonderful place to visit... you know the rest...!

Great Place!

The Milford Plaza is an old, 26 story hotel, in an excellent location, 1 block from Times Square. The room was clean, but small. We stayed on the 20th floor, and the view was awesome. The decor was up to date, and security was excellent. We had to show our room key to the security guards before they would let us enter the elevator area. The hotel is very clean, and the coffee shop inside is great. I will stay here again.

Good Value, Great Location

Just got back and was extremely pleased with our stay. The price was very reasonable so I was suspicous when making the reservations. However, the location is excellent, easy walking to Times Square and Theater District. Staff was very accomodating, allowing us to check in and access our room at 10 am so we didn't have to check our bags for the day. Rooms were average, but clean. Elevators were quick and dependable. No complaints whatsoever! Will definitely stay again.
